Happy Birthday Fritzy!

Fritz turns 3 today and this year he actually gets what it means to have a birthday.  He has been excited all month about his upcoming birthday event.  Preschool has contributed greatly to his excitement as he has seen other kids having birthdays, eaten the sugary treats that they bring and sang the happy birthday song to the now-older child with the rest of the group.  Now, his own day is upon him.

Yesterday, I bought some daffodils for his room and told him that he’d know it was his special day when he woke up and saw the daffodils.  So this morning, after being up at midnight and 3 with the little one, at 6:30 I awoke to his standard “Mommy, Mommy, Mommeeeee” (with some “Daddeeee “mixed in) and went into his room.   He was sprawled across the 5 foot long body pillow that we use to keep him from rolling out of bed.  He said “Mommy its my birthday today.  I wet the bed.”  And the fun begins again.  This is the third day in a row that that’s happened and I don’t know what the heck is going on, but with a heavy organic cotton mattress pad, a heavy organic cotton piddle pad (maybe I should just get a plastic one!), and a set of queen sized sheets, it certainly does mean a day of laundry doing.  So that’s how the special day began.  A puddle of pee for him and a lot of laundry for me.  That didn’t set him back though.  With a new dinosaur tattoo on his right hand and some cupcakes, he set off for preschool with Joe and was excited to go.  I can’t wait to hear how his day went.

Fritz celebrates at school

Tonight we’re going out for dinner to celebrate, and we are leaving Frankie at home with a sitter.  We’ve told him it’s going to be a special dinner with just the 3 of us and then it’s up to Green Bay this weekend for festivities with the family.  It’s really cool to see how excited he is and how aware of life he’s becoming.  I’m loving this age and think it’s going to be a great year for him.  I’ll provide updates and pics as the day unfolds.
